About

Chien-ju Lin first started teaching Chinese at UBC as a visiting lecturer in 2012, and she is now a lecturer as of 2016, teaching a variety of advanced heritage Chinese courses. Before teaching Chinese at UBC , she taught Chinese at Tamkang University’s Chinese Language Learning Center in Taiwan from 2005 – 2008. Then from 2010 – 2011, she became a guest instructor, teaching Mandarin at the Leiden University Chinese Studies Program in the Netherlands. Later, she received a M.A. Degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language at National Taiwan Normal University.

By encouraging her students, Chien-ju hopes they can become more comfortable with Chinese as they learn to cultivate their language-speaking confidence. Furthermore, she hopes that she can inspire her students to step out of their comfort zones to explore their interests in Chinese class, working towards their life missions, and all the while extending their potential as lifelong learners.
