Born and raised in England, Gurinder completed his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UBC, and subsequently earned a Master’s in Applied Legal Studies from SFU. His passion for Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu poetry brought him to the Asian Studies Department at UBC to complete a second Master’s. He has a vast interest in romantic folktales (qisse) written in poetic form, and is particularly fascinated with the story of Hir Ranjha, on which he is pursuing his research. A poet himself, Gurinder has been writing for many years, and hopes to publish his book someday. He can be reached at gsmann@mail.ubc.ca
