 Promises</em> is the first travelling museum exhibition to critically inves
 tigate the dispossession of Japanese Canadians in the 1940s. It illuminates
  the loss of home and the struggle for justice of one racially marginalized
  community. Developed in close collaboration with community partners\, the 
 exhibition foregrounds first-person narratives\, emphasizing the heterogene
 ity of lived experiences and the systemic injustices imposed by the state. 
 Reflecting on the exhibition currently on display at the Canadian Museum fo
 r Human Rights in Winnipeg (until October 2026)\, this talk will examine ho
 w community-engaged exhibition making and curatorial practice can operate a
