Join us for a conversation around proficiency based second-language Arabic teaching!
“From "What to teach?" to "How to teach?": Practices in light of Language Proficiency\,” a conversation with Dr. Amr Madi\, Precep tor in Arabic\, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations\, Ha rvard University.
This talk aims to address two core questions in L2 education: "What do we teach?" and "How do we teach?" The first question wi ll explore insights from the Proficiency Movement and its principles\, whil e the second will focus on the theoretical principles of Communicative Lang uage Teaching (CLT) and their practical applications. The session will crit ically examine various pedagogical practices\, both in and out of the class room\, assessing their effectiveness in enhancing language proficiency. The discussion will draw on the speaker’s practical experience\, interactions with attendees\, and relevant academic research.
The event will be mo derated by Dr. Nesri ne Basheer and presented in Arabic.

This is the first event in TAFL Talks\, a series of events in Arabic designed to foster discussions that bridge theo ry and practice in the teaching of Arabic as a second language. The initiat ive aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise across geogr aphic and linguistic boundaries. Topics will include strategies for enhanci ng language proficiency\, the use of artificial intelligence in Arabic lang uage instruction\, assessment principles\, and other key issues shaping Ara bic classrooms.
The series is organized and hosted by Dr. Nesrine Bas heer (The University of British Columbia)\, Dr. Lama Nassif (Carnegie Mello n University in Qatar)\, and Dr. Radwa Barouni (The University of Pennsylva nia).

الحوار مع الزميل الدكتور عمرو ماضي، المح اضر في قسم لغات وحضارات الشرق الأدنى ، جامعة هارفارد
يحاول الحوار الإجابة عن سؤالين أساسيين في عم لية التعلم: "ماذا نعلم؟" و"كيف نعلم؟". للإجابة عن السؤال الأول سيتناول اللق اء ما أثمرته حركة الكفاءة اللغوية ومعاييرها. أما بالنسبة للسؤال الثاني، ستت ناول المداخلة مجموعة المبادئ النظرية للتعلم التواصلي وتشرح الإستراتيجيات ال تطبيقية لهذه المبادئ. سيركز الحوار في أغلبه على تفكيك بعض الممارسات الصفية وغير الصفية وتقييم مدى إسهامها في رفع الكفاءة. ستعتمد المداخلة مصدرين أساسي ين في طرحها: التجربة العملية للضيف، ومناقشات مع الزملاء والزميلات الحضور، و كذلك بعض البحوث الأكاديمية.
