DESCRIPTION: On the evening of Nov. 8th\, 2018\, Iranian musician Mohsen Na
 mjoo delivered a speech\, in Persian\, titled ‘Dar radd va tamanna-ye nosta
 lji’ (‘On Declining and Desiring Nostalgia’) in the Auditorium of the Asian
  Studies Centre at the University of British Columbia\, to a Persian-speaki
 ng audience. Namjoo was invited by the Department of Asian Studies and the 
 UBC Persian Club. He had also held a workshop titled ‘Ritm-ha-ye do-zarbi’ 
 [‘Duples’] during the same day.

 day.</p><p> </p><div><strong>About the Alireza Ahmadian Lectures in Iranian
  and Persianate Studies: </strong>Alireza Ahmadian (1981 – 2019) was an ent
 husiastic researcher\, a consummate socio-political analyst\, and an opinio
 n leader on foreign policy who nurtured the virtues of diplomatic dialogue 
 and liberal democracy. Alireza was a proud and devoted UBC alumnus\, suppor
 ter of UBC’s Department of Asian Studies\, and beloved member of Canadian-I
 ranian Community. The department renamed this lecture series in his honour 
 in 2019. Alireza’s friends in the community have provided funding to suppor
 t this series\, and this generous gift will see these important academic an
 d community engagement events supported through to the end of the 2025/2026
