Opening Reception and Panel: Breaking the Silence: Caste, Policy and Liberation
Despite growing conversations around justice and equity, caste continues to be ignored in Canadian discourses. Dalit and caste oppressed communities in BC and across the diaspora have long spoken about exclusion, discrimination, and the erasure of their histories. The OVERCASTE exhibit curated by Poetic Justice Foundation is one of the first exhibits in North America centered on the lived experiences of caste in the Panjabi communities in BC.
The panel will feature the curators of OVERCASTE Anita Lal and Dr. Sharanjit K Sandhra; Senator Baltej S Dhillon; Dr. Seema Mahi, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Department of History; and with moderation by Dr. Priti Narayan, Assistant Professor Department of Geography.
This event is co-sponsored by Poetic Justice Foundation, UBC Asian Studies, Centre for India and South Asia Research (CISAR), Belonging Matters Consulting, and Nanak Foods.
The evening will begin with a reception and continue with a panel discussion. Registration is required.
