Join us for the Onkarbir Toor Memorial Lecture\, "Global Capitalism and the Peasant Question in Colonial Panjab".

Navyug Gill is a histo rian specializing in modern South Asia and global history. He is Associate Professor in the Department of History at William Paterson University. He r eceived a PhD from Emory University\, and a BA from the University of Toron to. Gill’s research explores broad questions of agrarian change\, labor pol itics\, caste hierarchy\, postcolonial critique and global capitalism.

< p>His first book\, "Labors of Division: Global Capitalism and the Emergence of the Peasant in Colonial Panjab\," was published by Stanford University Press in 2024. It examines the relationship between landholding peasants an d landless laborers and their implications for a new form of capitalist hie rarchy in colonial India and across the globe. Gill’s writings have appeare d in venues such as Past and Present\, the Journal of Asian Studies\, Econo mic and Political Weekly\, and Al Jazeera.
