On March 17, 2026, the Cantonese Language Program celebrated its 10th anniversary with a vibrant Cantonese Fun Night at the AMS Great Hall, drawing more than 100 attendees for an evening of music, performance, and community celebration. Students, alumni, and members of the UBC Hong Kong Yours Association gathered to honour a decade of language learning and cultural engagement.

The program showcased a dynamic lineup of student performances—from singing to poetry recitation—highlighting the creativity and dedication that flourish beyond the classroom. The evening also featured a slate of special guest performers. Award-winning Hong Kong band The Hertz energized the room with a live set, while Ms. Ching Choi delivered a powerful vocal performance. Rapper Handwash brought the crowd to its feet with his original Cantonese tracks, adding a contemporary edge to the celebration.

As part of the festivities, the audience voted for their favourite performers. The top three performances were:

  • Third Place: Samuel Lau for his rendition of《青春告別式》
  • Second Place: Danielle Chu for her performance of《普渡眾生》
  • First Place: Marcus Cho for his original song《時不知》

Cantonese Fun Night 2026 not only celebrated a milestone year but also reaffirmed the program’s commitment to fostering meaningful, community-driven language learning experiences. The evening closed with a group photo capturing performers, organizers, volunteers, and participants—a snapshot of a decade-long journey and the vibrant community that continues to grow around it.
