Dr. Pasang Yangjee Sherpa Speaks at the International Mountain Conference

Dr. Pasang Yangjee Sherpa spoke about the value of glaciers at the International Mountain Conference in Innsbruck on September 15, 2025.

She was a panelist alongside other international experts at this special event organized by the conference to mark the International Year of Glacier Preservation, announced by the United Nations (UN) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Dr. Sherpa discussed the collaborative research project with her community in Khumbu (Mount Everest region) and the lessons she has learned from the glaciers about collective survival on a warming planet. She mentioned that the glaciers should be recognized as powerful beings interconnected with the lakes, mountains, rivers, people and other beings. They are more than subjects to be pursued for Euro-Western science.
