On July 23, 2025, a ceremony was held to confer the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, on Professor Joshua Mostow of the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia. This honour was awarded as part of the 2024 Spring Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals.
Professor Mostow, a leading expert in pre-modern Japanese literature and visual culture, has made significant contributions to the advancement of Japan studies and to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and Canada. His achievements include extensive research and the mentoring of scholars in the field of Japan studies.
During the ceremony, attended by colleagues, current and former students, and friends, Consul General TAKAHASHI delivered congratulatory remarks and conferred the Patent of the Decoration and the insignia upon Professor Mostow.
