On June 26, 2025, a ceremony was held to formally present the Foreign Minister of Japan’s Commendation to Professor Sharalyn Orbaugh, Head of the Department of Asian Studies. It was attended by members of her family, friends, colleagues, and past and current students.
Professor Orbaugh has dedicated nearly four decades to the study of modern Japanese literature and popular culture. She was awarded this honour in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the promotion of Japanese studies in Canada.
