As a historian of science, Professor Kim has long explored the encounter between Eastern and Western scientific traditions during the 19th century, with a particular focus on the complexities of translation. Building on this foundation, Professor Kim is currently preparing a manuscript on the adoption of Western weaponry and its role in the modernization of 19th-century East Asia. This study seeks to examine the trajectories of East Asian modernization from the perspective of the history of science and technology, specifically by analyzing the evolution of modern armaments as a key historical lens.
