About

Xiong Zhang holds an MA in Asian Studies with a focus on Chinese Studies from the University of British Columbia. His academic interests encompass Chinese literature, Chinese popular culture, and non-fiction writing. Prior to his role at UBC, he earned a BA in Journalism from Renmin University of China and spent a decade working as an in-depth investigative journalist, covering major social issues and interviewing hundreds of people, ranging from grassroots individuals to renowned celebrities and scholars across China.
