On Friday, March 8, the Japanese Language Programme held its annual Talent Night. The Programme’s largest ever event, the response to the call for participants was very enthusiastic, with several performers placed on a waiting list.
The event was attended by nearly 200 students, instructors and friends who enjoyed a record 24 performances in Japanese by UBC Japanese language students, including karaoke, live musical performances, videos, and a poster presentation by the members of the Tadoku (extensive reading) Club, as well as guest performances by students from Japan currently studying at the English Language Institute. By popular demand we also brought back the Gorin Ondo, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics dance, which was performed by the entire audience.
After a break during which we enjoyed sushi, yakisoba and snacks, door prizes were drawn, and the audience voted and prizes and certificates were awarded. Congratulations to the winners and to all the participants, including the members of the Tadoku Club, and the students from the English Language Institute, for their wonderful and entertaining performances, and thanks to everyone involved for their hard work both during the event and in the months of planning beforehand. See you again next year!
