The Department of Asian Studies is excited to invite you to our annual Welcome Back Night on September 19!
Whether you’re brand new to UBC or returning for another year, come celebrate Asian cultures and languages and learn more about the Asian Studies programs. You’ll get the chance to meet our faculty and staff, and mingle with other students during an evening filled with fun activities! Check out our Asian Language and Culture booths to play cultural games, try on traditional clothing, and test your Asian language knowledge. You’ll also have the chance to win raffle prizes (Asian Studies Merchandise)!

Asian Studies Office: Meet our undergrad advisor and learn about student resources available to you!
Asian Studies Sustainability Committee: Learn about the climate action plan and play a “sort it out” game and see if you know how to recycle! ♻️
Arabic: Learn how to write your name with the second-most widely used alphabetic writing system in the world 📝
Cantonese: Utilize your strategy skills in the tile game of Mahjong 🀄️
Chinese: Play various small games such as character matching, diabolo, pitch-pot, and shuttlecock or Jianzi, a traditional Chinese sport.
Japanese: Challenge yourself with Japanese card games such as karuta and hiragana shinkei suijaku, which will test both your memory and speed ⚡️
Korean: Get crafty and fold yourself a Hanbok – a traditional Korean costume – or better yet, try a real one on!
Sanskrit: Test your knowledge with the Sanskrit Trivia Quiz!
Tibetan: Practice calligraphy… in Tibetan script!
