4. Qualifications:
ㅇ No limit on Age or Gender
ㅇ Not a native speaker of Korean
ㅇ Must qualify for one of the contest categories
5. Categories:
(1) Beginner
ㅇ Both parents/guardians are not native speakers of Korean(one Korean-speaking
parent or guardian is allowed)
ㅇ Has studied the Korean language for less than one year at an educational
institution.
ㅇ Has not stayed in Korea for more than a total of three months after the age of
six
(2) Intermediate
ㅇ Both parents/guardians are not native speakers of Korean(one Korean-speaking
parent or guardian is allowed)
ㅇ Has studied the Korean language for less than two years at an educational
institution. ㅇ Has not stayed in Korea for more than a total of six months after the age of six
(3) Advanced
ㅇ Both parents/guardians are not native speakers of Korean(one Korean-speaking
parent or guardian is allowed)
ㅇ No limit on hours of study for the Korean language
Notice: On the contest day, if a contestant is considered higher or lower in
Korean than his or her application category, he or she can be
placed in an appropriate category at the discretion of the judges.
6. Speech Title and Content:
ㅇ Submit speech at time of application
ㅇ Choose own title and subject of their speech
ㅇ Memorize the speech
7. Speech Length:
ㅇ Beginner: up to 3 minutes
ㅇ Intermediate: up to 4 minutes
ㅇ Advanced: 4-5 minutes
Note: Contestants who exceed the time limits will be subject to demerit
points.
8. Judges and Evaluation Criteria:
ㅇ Panel of 3~5 judges comprised of Korean-speaking professionals
ㅇ Speeches are assessed according to content and organization, grammar and
pronunciation, manner of presentation and audience’s response
9. Certificates and Prizes:
ㅇ All contestants will be awarded a participation certificate and a souvenir
ㅇ Top 3 winners in each category will be awarded certificates of award and
prizes (for example, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S series)
