Asia Club Career Night – Working in Government



We know that our most popular student event of the year is our Annual Asian Studies Careers Night and we have heard from many of you that you would like more. We are glad to announce that the Department of Asian Studies has teamed up with UBC’s ASIA Club to provide a series of mini themed careers nights throughout the year! We will be starting the series with a “Working in Government” theme and will be inviting 3 Alumni back to campus.

This event will be an informal dinner with the goal of providing students the opportunity to meet and network with our featured alumni.

Price: Free for ASIA Club members, $5 for non-members

Featured Alumni


Keith Fedoruk, BA ’87 (Japanese), after leaving UBC, began working at the Japanese Consulate in Vancouver. He is currently the Assistant to the Consul for Cultural Affairs.

 

 


Paula Bennett, BA ‘ 73, has been working for various departments related to Immigration Canada since 1973. She has worked all around the word, from the US to Africa to Asia, and was most recently the First Secretary for the Embassy of Canada in Beijing. Paula has now retired in Vancouver.

 

 

Michael Nicholas, BA ’92, is the Director for India and Southeast Asia with Trade and Invest British Columbia where he leads a team of 15+ sector managers advising corporate clients on business development from the offices in Vancouver, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chandigarh.  Prior to this, he ran the Beijing Business Program that brought more than 850 Canadian companies to China for formal business development programs.

Michael spent almost a decade in Southeast Asia working as an international management consultant and is fluent in Indonesian.  He has a degree in Southeast Asian Studies from UBC and an MBA from INSEAD in France.
