Call for Papers! Topics: “Women in Chosŏn and Colonial Korea” and “‘Publicness’ in the Confucian Tradition of Korea”

At University of British Columbia

There will be a Yonsei-UBC joint-conference on two topics (“Women in Chosŏn and Colonial Korea” and “Publicness in the Confucian Tradition of Korea”) which will be to be held in August 2013 at UBC. 6-7 faculty members in the fields of Korean history, Korean literature, sociology, philosophy, and cultural studies, who are affiliated with the Institute for Korean Studies (국학연구원) of Yonsei University, plan to present papers, and UBC offers a venue for this joint-conference. This joint-conference is open to anyone who is interested in presenting a paper.

For this conference, we are seeking original academic papers on any aspect of these two topics. UBC will offer a venue and meals to all participants during the conference period.

Scholars who submit a paper by July 1st, 2013 and are selected will be invited to this two-day conference.

Proposal deadline: May 1st, 2013 (a length of 250 words)
Paper deadline: July 1st (Mon), 2013
Length of paper: more than 8,000 words in English, or a comparable length in Korean
Language for presentation and discussion: Korean (한국어)

Those who are invited will be notified by July 5th (Fri), 2013. For this conference, no financial aid for travel and accommodation is offered to participants.
