A Chinese teaching workshop entitled “When Teaching Grammar Meets Formal Syntax” was offered to the faculty members of the Chinese Language Program on February 28, 2018, presented by Professor Sze-Wing Tang of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition to insights on the teaching of Chinese syntax, Prof. Tang engaged the workshop participants in a lively discussion on Chinese syntax theories.
The following day on March 1, 2018, Prof. Tang gave a guest lecture to the students of the CNTO 451 Advanced Cantonese Through Popular Culture course. The topic of the lecture was “Hong Kong Cantonese: What to do and how to go?” and it was joined by many non-students from the general public.
Students and faculty of both the Cantonese and Chinese Programs were benefited and inspired by Prof. Tang’s presentations and visit. We look forward to future collaborations with him and his institution.
