Parboti Roy attends the First Conference on Global Indigenous Studies at Indiana University



PhD candidate Parboti Roy attended and presented in a panel and a roundtable discussion on her ongoing PhD research at the First Conference on Global Indigenous Studies (CGIS) on November 15-17 at Indiana University Bloomington, USA.

On the first day of the conference, Roy attended a roundtable discussion titled ‘Navigating Western Academia and Claiming Indigeneity by Indigenous Graduate Students from Bangladesh’ with her two colleagues from the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh. In this session, Parboti shared her experience of navigating the University, the community and the self as an Indigenous researcher while researching gendered violence and the lived experiences of Indigenous women leaders.

On the last day, Roy presented the preliminary findings of her ongoing PhD research on the experiences of Indigenous women leaders and activists in addressing gendered and sexual violence in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), Bangladesh at a panel on Indigenous Women’s Struggle and Activism.
