We continue to build on the list of Sustainable New Year Resolutions we shared at the beginning of this year. This month our committee wants to share handy resources of taking actions for equity and sustainability. From signing an online petition to helping at a wildlife shelter – you can choose what suits your lifestyle and give back!
Inter-unit Action Meeting
In 2010 and 2016 the Board of Governors approved a Climate Action Plan and an update which committed UBC to long-term and short-term carbon reductions leading to net zero emissions by 2050. The campus is home to numerous sustainability initiatives catalyzing departments and units to work toward zero emissions.
Eager to share approaches, ideas, strategies and templates, members of the Asian Studies Sustainability Initiative met with students, staff, and faculty involved with the AMS Sustainable Action Plan; Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences Climate Action Research Committee; Geography Climate Action Committee; Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability Green Policy and Action Plan; and Library Climate Action Team.
It was energizing to see the work being done in other units, a willingness to share knowledge and experience, and the potential for working together. We look forward to building on the wealth of experience and advice brought by these committee members in other units.
