The Vancouver Korean-Canadian Scholarship Foundation annually offers a scholarship to a graduate student majoring in Korean studies at UBC. In February 2018, members of its Board of Directors, including Eunice Oh (Chair), Dr. Yul Kwon (Director) and Ms. Kyungae Kim (Director), visited UBC and awarded a scholarship to Kyrie Vermette, PhD student, in the Department of Asian Studies. Ms Vermette works on gendered and racial ideologies of colonialism as they appeared in relations between Korean women and foreign women living in Korea – specifically North American missionaries and Japanese settlers – from 1884-1945. The Vancouver Korean-Canadian Scholarship Foundation is a charitable organization that has provided over $700,000 in scholarships since 1999 to students of Korean heritage or students pursuing academic research related to Korea.
