Video: 2019 Lunar New Year Celebration

On February 8th, the Chinese Language program welcomed the Year of the Pig at their 2019 Lunar New Year Celebration. Students, teachers and other curious participants gathered at the Nest to explore Chinese and Korean cultures through engaging cultural activities and entertainment.

Participants had the chance to learn how to make Chinese dumplings, try on a Korean hanbok, and partake in fun games of Cantonese mahjong and ring toss. Other popular booths provided hands-on opportunities to create some beautiful art through paper cutting, calligraphy and seal engraving. Spectators cheered on and showed support to spectacular performances of lion dances, Korean drumming and K-pop dance covers, as well as performances from Heritage Chinese students, UBC Chinese Music Club and UBC Cloud T. Dance Club.

As the day went on, the Nest radiated with enthusiasm and excitement, and proved to be a memorable event for everyone. Thanks to all the staff, volunteers, and participants that made this event such a success.
