Write for Ricepaper! Submissions close 8 July, 2017.

Ricepaper offers Asian Canadian context to ongoing arts and cultural issues, new perspectives on emerging and established Asian Canadian artists, challenges to the mainstream media perspective, little-known facts of interest, or a critical story that hasn’t been told elsewhere.
Writers of any and all cultural backgrounds are encouraged to submit non-fiction articles, stories, poems, and profiles relatable to Asian Canadians, many of whom consider themselves global citizens with ties to other parts of the world.

Canada 150, or the 150th anniversary of Confederation, is an occasion of both celebration and remembrance. The significance of this anniversary can be complicated to navigate given Canada’s varied history. Some people have lived in Canada their whole lives; others haven’t, yet they know that this country is their home. From tales of the past, what lessons have we learned to apply to the future? What country can we make of the one we inhabit now? Will you celebrate Canada 150 at all? What would you celebrate instead?
