Haoyue Li received her BA (2018) and MA (2020) in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia. She is now a second-year PhD student in UBC’s Department of Asian Studies. Her differentiation will explore odour culture in late imperial (ca. 14th – 19th century) China. The study situates the records of smells into a broader framework of literary studies and sensory studies, connoisseurship culture and material culture, and the study of medical epistemology and technological history.
