Jeonghye Son specializes in Korean sociolinguistics with a specific focus on minority language maintenance/shift, language ideologies and identities. She completed her dissertation on language socialization processes through which languages ideologies and identities are constructed, transmitted and negotiated within the Korean diaspora in Japan. Her other research interests include linguistic rights, multicultural and multilingual policy, language and citizenship in South Korea, and Korean language education as a second language and heritage language.
