Giovanni Volpe is a Korea Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow. He received his Ph.D. in Civilizations of Asia and Africa at Sapienza University of Rome.

His research interests include the history of writing and reading practices in premodern Korea. His ongoing research delves into the use of the written language in early Chosŏn Korea by combining bibliographical and philological analysis of original texts with the examination of depictions of reading found in documentary and literary sources.
