We’ve asked some of our Asian Studies faculty, staff and students to share their experiences on working from home. Chinese language teaching assistant Xinran Huang has a special love for Nintendo Switch (can you tell?):
What are some problems you may have encountered during the transition to remote working?
- I get distracted and lose concentration during online classes. I miss my friends and coworkers a lot. I really miss the time when we discuss problems and work together.
How did you cope with the problems to ease the transition?
- I try to create a daily routine for myself.
What were some things you needed to get used to when working at home?
- Actually most of the work has stayed on track. In the beginning, we needed to quickly familiarize ourselves with a series of procedures and methods for online classes. This made us a little busy and nervous.
Describe one new thing (skill, interest, pastime, etc) you may have learned during the quarantine time?
- I have to start cooking for myself during quarantine.
Any medium (music, books, cooking recipe, etc.) you could recommend that you’ve found relaxing/entertaining recently?
- DEFINITELY PLAYING NINTENDO SWITCH / 9-1-1 TV series
During this time, have you sought/found any words of wisdom or quotes from your language area/culture/background that you have found to be particularly comforting, and could share if so?
- I stay at work for you, you stay at home for us.
