About
Cheng Chi 池骋 (She/Her) is an MA student specializing in Asian diaspora studies in Canada, with a particular focus on the immigration experiences of working-class Chinese women. She aims to explore how these women perceive and respond to the challenges and changes associated with immigration, and investigates how the experiences of immigration, exile, and acculturation influence collective memory, trauma, and gender dynamics within Asian communities in Canada. Her research intersects migration studies and gender studies, with a focus on the lived experiences of marginalized groups.
She also has broader interests in East Asian issues, such as identity construction in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and feminist studies in Japan. She is particularly concerned with the relationship between the Matsu Islands (under the control of the ROC) and Fuzhou, Fujian (her hometown, under the control of the PRC), which historically shared the same language and culture but were partitioned as adversaries following the Chinese Civil War in 1949.
