About
Ruiying Zhang is a first-year graduate student studying modern and contemporary Chinese literature at UBC with research focusing on the scientific narrative and the history of science. She is a member of London Science Fiction Research Community, cohosting discussions about Chinese science fiction every month. She is also a member of the Chinese youth research project “The Imagination of Contemporary Chinese Science Fiction.”
Before joining the Asian Studies program, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Literature at Nankai University (Tianjin, China) in 2019 with a paper focusing on the Aha images in Eryue He’s novels and a Master’s Degree in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature at Fudan University (Shanghai, China) in 2022 with a thesis discussing the imagination of the late Ming dynasty in contemporary Chinese historical science fiction. During her BA program at Nankai, she also studied at Taiwan Normal University (Taipei, Taiwan) as an exchange student in 2018.
