On February 29, Japan Studies faculty members in the Department of Asian Studies, along with representatives from community organizations and other UBC units, met to thank Consul General Okada and Mrs. Okada for three years of exemplary service to the academic and arts communities of Vancouver and British Columbia. A certificate of recognition was offered to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts made by Consul General Seiji Okada and Mrs. Okada to expand the scholarly, artistic, and cultural work of the Consulate General of Japan. Representatives from TomoeArts, the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra, the Centre for Japanese Research, the Institute of Asian Research, the Asian Library, the Museum of Anthropology, and Nitobe Garden voice their gratitude and wished the Okadas well as they return to Tokyo.
