Cantonese Language Program promotes Hong Kong culture at inaugural Vancouver Hong Kong Fair
On Saturday, May 14, 2022, the first-ever Vancouver Hong Kong Fair was hosted by HK House at SFU Harbour Centre in Downtown Vancouver. As a part of their ongoing community outreach efforts, the UBC Cantonese program hosted a booth with games and prizes to showcase Cantonese language learning to community members.

Lanterns Lighted, Poetry Revived: Recap of the 2022 Chinese Language Program Lantern Festival Poetry Event
The 2022 UBC Lantern Festival Poetry Event organized by the Chinese Language Program (CLP) has attracted significant attention and achieved great success. Held for the fifth time, the event this year has showcased 102 artworks related to Chinese poetry submitted by CLP students, and shared 20 multilingual presentations by distinguished guest speakers from both the Department of Asian Studies and the UBC Asian Library.
Boundaries Transcended: Recap of the 2022 Undergraduate Conference of Chinese Studies 3MT Competition
The Undergraduate Conference of Chinese Studies 3-Minute Thesis Competition was held at the UBC Asian Centre Auditorium on April 1, 2022. As a burgeoning academic forum, the Conference serves as an ideal platform for undergraduate students to present their research discoveries, engage in scholarly discussions, and build learning communities for studies on China and the Chinese speaking world.

On March 17th, we invited 8 Asian Studies alumni to share their university and post-grad experiences for our annual Asian Studies Careers Night. Calling in online from across Canada and Asia, alumni offered insights and advice to the next generation of Asian Studies students. Attendees included Asian Studies majors, minors, students from other disciplines, and prospective Asian Studies students.
The 34th Annual BC Japanese Speech Contest Recap
The annual Japanese speech contest was held in person on March 5 at the Asian Centre Auditorium in UBC, with 19 UBC students competing as finalists.
