Nineteen students from UBC were selected as the finalists to participate in the 29th Annual BC Japanese Speech Contest held at Asian Centre on March 4th.
Our contestants were: Kristine Hui, Mason Leung, Clover Nyi, Kevin Chou, Jack Hwang, Sheryn Liao, Rachel Marchand, Jana Salameh, Liping Zhang, Lois Zhang, Duston Baranow-Watts, Cynthia Carty, Conan Chu, Carmela de Torres, Kevin Reynolds, Yu Zhao, Jeremy Sit, Selina Yamagishi Letargua and Jessie Yang. Ten of them won prizes at various categories.
Prof. Christina Yi served as a judge for the University Category and presented the judges’ comments at the Award Ceremony. Ms. Okai, Consul General of Japan in Vancouver, Prof. King and Prof. Yi presented the prizes to the contestants.
Mason, Jack, Cynthia and Jeremy won the first prizes in the Beginner, Intermediate, Advance and Open categories respectively, and will present their speeches at the Canada National Japanese Speech Contest held at Asian Centre, UBC on Saturday, March 18. Please be there to show your support!
