Since 2020, Asian Studies graduate students Miaoling Xue, Saeko Suzuki, and José Manuel Escalona Echániz have been collaborating with Dr. Christina Laffin to create a video series named “Exploring Premodern Japan” that capture aspects of research on premodern Japan.

The 34th Annual BC Japanese Speech Contest Recap
The annual Japanese speech contest was held in person on March 5 at the Asian Centre Auditorium in UBC, with 19 UBC students competing as finalists. The finalists were: Kristy Han, Karli Messer, Jack Peters, Chenghao Wang, Michelle Anne Cheng, Tomoki Jia, Serena Chen, Vandhana Kammampati, Rui Li, Ingrid Abigail Mas, Luna Qi, Astoria Tai, Richard Wu, Xinyue Wu, Yinan Zhu, Johnny Chen, Yuval Kehila, Ryan Sum, and Tielia Young.
