Honours

The Asian area studies honours program is designed to prepare outstanding students who intend to pursue a graduate degree in Asian studies.

Curriculum

Students in the honours program must achieve the following degree requirements including their honours thesis:

*Please keep in mind that the honours in Asian area studies may not be combined with a major or honours in Asian language and culture.

Admissions

Admissions to the Asian area studies honours program is by permission of the Department and requires that students demonstrate a strong overall performance in related courses with a particular focus on cultural content courses (ASIA).

Students must find their thesis advisor prior to admission to the Honours program.

The completed form with the thesis advisor’s signature will be accepted starting in July, prior to the last winter session, once the schedule is finalized.

Students must take their honours thesis course (ASIA 499) either in term 1 or 2 of their last winter session. ASIA 499 can be taken in Term 1 if the form is submitted by the deadline, August 25th. For taking the ASIA 499 in term 2, the deadline to submit the form is December 10th.
